Ep. 024 - Kiel Alderink

Kiel Alderink is the director of instruction at The Academy at Black Creek in Chattanooga, Tennessee. He has been named a Top Teacher Under 40 in America and the Top Teacher in Tennessee by Golf Digest. Kiel is also a Mental Golf Type certified coach, which is a personality test made for golfers to help them figure out how they think and perform better.

Kiel is a big advocate for Mental Golf Type.

As noted above, it is a personality test that breaks down golfers habits across 4 different categories, and then breaks down potential behaviors depending on the results. One of the many helpful parts of this program is that it lets golfers take a look at how they normally behave, and what they will find is that when the play poorly they do the opposite. For example, when an extrovert starts playing bad, they will go silent and not talk to anyone. To learn more about this, go to www.mentalgolftype.com

Another interesting use of Mental Golf Types is that it helps give clues to instructors and players as to how they can best handle themselves on the golf course. There is a consistent (and not untrue) refrain in the golf industry that the golfer should be focused on the target. This is true for some golfers, but Kyle has found that it is not true for all of them and, in fact, being target focused can be a hindrance for many of them.
